How often should I weigh myself? This is a question that is important to talk about. Monitoring your weight is an important part of weight loss. Keep in mind that what I have set out to do throughout this blog is explain how I am changing my lifestyle by eating healthy for life and not just focusing on my weight loss. Through healthy eating and moderate exercise I have gradually been transforming my body and that has lead to weight loss. This is not something that will happen overnight. You will also not experience weight loss and keep the weight off when you do it quickly. It took you a while to put on the pounds and it will take a while to lose it.
Weighing yourself everyday is not mentally good for you. You will tend to get depressed and give up on your goals if the scale doesn't reveal what you want. Some days you may get on the scale and see a loss of pounds and get excited. The next time you may see a gain in pounds and want to give up. Don't get discouraged for this is natural and another reason why you should not base your overall goals on what the scale reveals. I use to get very upset at first and almost felt that maybe all my efforts were not worth it for the scale just didn't seem to move. Then I realized from my research that this happens and that is one reason why many people give up and don't continue toward their weight loss goals. I don't focus on the scale like I use to and have given up weighing myself as much as I use too.
Instead of weighing yourself and depending totally on what the scale says you need to ask yourself how you feel overall? Do your clothes fit a little looser? Do you have more energy throughout the day? Does your body feel tighter or more firm? Remember the scale doesn't show you how you lost fat and gained muscle. Your body will be your monitor of these questions. How you feel will better inform you of how your efforts are proving positive.
You only need to weigh yourself once a week. Your body will naturally change weight from day to day. This is due to water retention and the fluctuation in increased weight is natural. The following are some tips when weighing yourself.
1. Weigh yourself once a week.
2. Weigh yourself first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything. You will gain pounds and lose pounds throughout the day.
3. Weigh yourself on the same day of the week.
4. Weigh yourself on the same scale.
It is also important to note that you will lose inches before pounds. A positive sign that you are losing inches is when your clothes start to fit looser even though the scale doesn't show you lost pounds. Don't get discouraged when you don't lose weight in the beginning for you may be losing inches. Don't get discouraged even after you have made healthy changes and still don't see the loss in weight you expected. Remember that it will take time. You didn't put the pounds on overnight and they will not come off and stay off overnight either. Stick to your healthy eating plan and moderate exercise routine. Before you know it the scale will be going DOWN!!
