Pesticides and Organic Food Update

This is important information that you should know when shopping for healthy foods for your family.  As a rule the healthy foods are usually around the outside perimeter of the grocery store.  That is where you will find your fruits, vegetables, meats, and dairy.  When at all possible try to avoid isles in the grocery store that you do not need to visit.  Always make a grocery list prior to shopping to ensure you only purchase the items needed on your list.

According to nutritionist Josh Bezoni the non profit group "The Environmental Working Group" released an annual report on vegetables and fruits that are most likely to contain pesticides.  You should try to buy the following organically;  peaches, carrots, pears, lettuce, strawberries, kale, imported grapes, apples, bell peppers, nectarines, celery, cherries.

The following contain least pesticide residue;  broccoli, tomato, sweet potato, onion, cabbage, avocado, sweet corn, pineapple, mango, asparagus, sweet peas, papaya, kiwi, eggplant, watermelon.  These can be purchased without being organic.

I know what you are thinking about organic fruits and vegetables in reference to the price however there are many grocery stores that are including reasonably priced organic foods.  I buy a lot of my organic vegetables and fruits from Walmart at very reasonable prices.  It is also important to try and buy organic milk and other dairy products like yogurt when possible to avoid added hormones, antibiotics and sugar.
