It doesn't matter if your 16, 25, or 50 many of us have some type of issue with our skin. Some battle acne and skin related issues on the face that make us feel less attractive. We end up buying expensive products that only cover up the problem and don't really work from the inside out. If your more on the 50 side like me you are concerned with wrinkles and trying to keep your skin younger looking. Eating healthy foods is good for you both inside and out no matter what your age or skin issue. A better diet reflects in your skin. If you are not eating a healthy diet that can be one of the causes for your skin issues. I found the following ten foods to be the most beneficial for helping maintain healthy skin to include your face.
These foods were listed in part of an article by Jennifer Guenemay of Lifescript.
1. Avocado--These contain essential oils and B-complex vitamins that nourish your skin inside and out.
Niacin (B3) is very important to healthy skin and avocados are rich in niacin. Niacin helps to sooth irritated, inflamed red blotchy skin. I have provided information in the past on the avocado as it is one of the major foods to help burn belly fat. Now it is also a benefit to your skin. I eat avocados daily with omelets, in salads, as guacamole, and in fudge. It is also great in smoothies. Blend 1/2 an avocado with yogurt and frozen berries for a healthy smoothy that will help you burn belly fat and support your healthy skin.
***Try this***Avocado Face Mask--As well as eating avocado you can use it directly on your face by creating a soothing face mask. Mash up one peeled avocado and mix it with one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of flaxseed oil until creamy. You can then apply it to your face and let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water.
2. Mangoes--These have more than 80% of your daily requirement of vitamin A. Vitamin A is vital for your face as it maintains and repairs skin cells. If you lack vitamin A your skin will be dry and flaky. It also fights against premature aging of the skin. If you never tried mangoes they are really good and taste something like a peach.
3. Almonds--These are great to eat and a handful each day has great benefits for your health and skin. They are great for your complexion for they contain vitamin E. Vitamin E moisturizes dry skin and helps protect against skin damage. I love almonds and have been using almond butter in my recipes. Nuts in general are a healthy snack food to eat between meals or in your yogurt.
4. Cottage Cheese--This is a dairy product that is a source of calcium which is important for healthy bones and face. There is also Selenium in cottage cheese which is an essential nutrient with vitamin E that will work as a duo to protect against skin cancer and fight dandruff.
5. Acerola Cherries--These are different from other cherries for just one of these cherries supplies 100% of your daily vitamin C which is great for your skin. I found this to be so interesting. Vitamin C helps fight skin damage and wrinkles.
6. Oysters--These may not be everyone's favorite food however they have many benefits especially for acne. Oysters are rich in zinc which effects sebrum production and a deficiency may contribute to acne.
7. Baked Potatoes--We are not talking about greasy french fries but a baked potato with the skin. These contain copper which is an essential mineral. Too little copper in your diet can reduce your skins ability to heal. Another good reason to eat your veggies.
8. Mushrooms--These are rich in riboflavin which is a B vitamin. Riboflavin (B2) is involved in tissue maintenance and repair and improves skin blemishes and rosacea.
9. Flaxseed Oil--This is one of the best sources of omega 3's which are great for your skin. This is great if you do not like eating fish which are another source of omega 3's. Just one teaspoon of flaxseed oil a day provides 2.5mg of omega 3's to hydrate your skin. This fatty acid also helps unclog pores that can lead to acne.
10. Wheat Germ--This is the embryo within a germ of wheat. It is a good source of biotin, a vitamin B vitamin that is crucial to skin health. A mild biotin deficiency can cause dermatitis with itchy, scaly skin. To include wheat germ in your diet sprinkle it on your yogurt or add in your favorite muffin recipe.
I enjoyed researching these foods that will benefit your health and improve your skin. I hope you enjoyed reading this information. Another important thing to remember is to wear sunscreen daily on your face that contains at least 15 SPF.
Always try to eat whole foods, drink plenty of water, and exercise, as these will increase your health both inside and out. Another note to help improve your skin is to not smoke and avoid second hand smoke. Smoking damages your body inside as we all know however it also effects your skin and makes it more prone to wrinkles.
